OUR MISSION
Sterling Community Theatre is dedicated to fostering fellowship and cultural enrichment rooted in family, creativity, and community through high-quality theatre arts experiences in the greater Sterling area. We cultivate an appreciation for the performing arts through live performances, hands-on experiences, and community engagement in partnership with local organizations and The First Church of Sterling. We provide creative opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in theatre—whether performing onstage or contributing behind the scenes. By expanding participation, encouraging volunteerism, and growing our audiences, we strive each year to deepen our impact and strengthen our role within the community.
OUR STORY
In the spring of 1997, Susan Galvin looked at the unused stage in the Parish Hall of The First Church in Sterling and asked a simple question: “What do you think about starting a community theatre here?” By that fall, she and a group of First Church members brought that idea to life with Sterling Community Theatre’s first production, Godspell.
Following the show’s unexpected success, the group returned the next year with Jesus Christ Superstar, and Sterling Community Theatre was officially on its way. Since then, SCT has produced at least one show every year, building a rich tradition of musical theatre in the community. Past productions include beloved classics such as Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz, and The Music Man, along with more recent favorites like Matilda, School of Rock, The Addams Family, and The Little Mermaid.
Sterling Community Theatre remains a proud extension and community outreach of The First Church in Sterling. Participation is open to residents of all towns—not just Sterling—welcoming performers, crew members, and volunteers from throughout the region.
